This is another great book by the award-winning author, Jacqueline Wilson. Pearl is a timid girl who is always in the shadow of her brave and daring sister, Jodie. One day they receive news from their parents that they are moving to a gorgeous gothic private school called Melchester College. Pearl is excited for a new start, while Jodie is reluctant. But like it or not, they leave their old lives behind to Melchester College.
Their summer holiday is strange; Pearl and Jodie seems to be in a role reversal. Pearl is no longer a scared-looking girl who lurks in the background. She comes out of her shell and makes some new friends. On the other hand, Jodie gets into a big trouble with her parents and teachers, and can’t seem to make any friends at all. The term starts, and Jodie’s situation soon gets bad to worse. She is bullied by her peers. Pearl makes more new friends that she can relate to. Pearl feels herself drifting away from her beloved sister.
On the annual school bonfire night, something tragic happens to Jodie. Pearl realizes how much she loves her sister, Jodie.
This is an insightful and inspiring novel that breaks your heart, and fixes it back again. A must-read for Jacqueline Wilson fans, or those who haven’t read her books but willing to give it a go!
